Shawn Gitman has been a Moda member from the beginning and is a testament to how powerful this community can really be!
Here is Shawn’s Moda story –
About two years ago, Shawn’s daughter (Hannah) experienced a sudden episode at school that was completely out of character and changed daily life for their family. Before that, she was a social, active kid. Afterward, she struggled to leave the house, needed one of her parents nearby at all times, and pulled away from routines and activities she once enjoyed. This episode lead to a long stretch where the family focused on helping Hannah feel safe again and find small ways to move forward.
Months later, Hannah decided she wanted to try playing basketball. That decision lead to a new beginning that Shawn and his wife were hoping for. Basketball gave her a reason to leave the house and reconnect socially. And over time, it helped her rebuild confidence and return to many of the things she enjoyed before. While she still has challenges and needs support in certain situations, her parents credit basketball as an important part of her progress.
This new beginning left Shawn wanting to do something meaningful for his daughter and give her an experience connected to the game she loved. So he turned to the Moda community. He made a post in The Moda Club asking if anyone had a connection to tickets for an NBA game in New York. Initially, Shawn was just hoping to get a few replies and some resources to purchase some decent tickets, but the response he received was immediate, genuine, and more than he imagined. Members stepped up without hesitation. Specifically, Jason from MyTime26 Watches and Romell Bahala from CA33, who worked together to help make it happen, and even paid for the tickets. Ultimately, giving Hannah an experience that meant far more than just attending a game. The game ended up being everything Shawn had dreamed it would be for his Daughter. They had great seats, got to see some superstars, and even managed to snag an autograph.
This is why stories like this matter to us. Moda has always been about people first. It is not just about shared interests or business. It is about being willing to help when someone speaks up and asks. These moments remind us that the Moda community shows itself in small, real ways, and that support does not always need to be loud to make the biggest difference.
